Process initiated and its outcomes

There has been a two-pronged focus in our response to the flood. Firstly, families whose homes have been destroyed in the flood should have a roof over their heads. For this, it has been planned that all affected families would receive a tarpaulin sheet and two kilos of rope to prepare a temporary shelter. 8650 families are to be covered under this. 600 of the most vulnerable families would be identified and they will be supported in the construction of a temporary shelter.

These families would also be supported with bamboo and the services of a carpenter. A second area of concern for us is the access to clean and safe drinking water. The intervention points for this are—Two Buckets with lids for each family, a mug, alum and geoline for treating water and marking cloth. This will cover 7000 families. A total of 10000 families were to receive three soaps for washing, bathing and laundry and ORS. Keeping in mind the specific needs of hygiene for women, Oxfam has also planned for distribution of 5000 sanitary na pkins. In order to meet these plans, Unnayan, with the support of Oxfam has trained a team of 70 volunteers for the identification of the affected families and distribution of relief material. To continue the Public Health and Hygiene promotion campaign into the second month, a group of 28 volunteers have been trained for repairing and disinfecting tube wells. These volunteers will also be involved in generating awareness among the communities. 6 volunteers have been trained to test water using the Del Agua water testing kit.
